John McDermott

Member

John McDermott is a leading advocate for Internet of Things Applications and how these solutions can address needs in the physical world to improve productivity, performance, and environment management. John is the founder of BoatSecure, leads the Connected Environments post graduate programme at Tech Futures Lab, founder of the IoT Auckland meetup and a member of the NZ IoT Alliance. John has experience leading and working with many functions required for success: strategic and solution research, product development, competitive intelligence, content creation, digital marketing, demand generation, sales collaboration, etc. John’s work is much valued by his peers in the industry.

 

 

John is an electronic graduate from the University of Manchester and an MBA from the Queensland University of Technology. John supports organisations on their technology journey through his experience with IoT technology solutions, business applications for IoT, business case analysis etc.

Sameer Handa

Chair

Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Business and New Zealand-India relations, Sameer is a proven Senior Executive with extensive experience in management and leadership roles in various countries and industries. He is currently the Managing Director of Glowbal NZ Limited. Sameer is an experienced Director with wide Governance knowledge and is on the board of Bank of India (NZ) Ltd, Refrigerant Recovery NZ Ltd, Chair of India NZ Business Council and Deputy Chair at New Zealand Asian leaders (NZAL). He has also been part of a few Ministerial Trade delegations. In addition, Sameer is involved with many charities and as a trustee of the Auckland Health Foundation, he is helping it to achieve its purpose of driving positive change in health care through cutting-edge innovation.

 

Sameer is a Mechanical Engineer and MBA from Sydney University. He uses his business, management and international trade experience to mentor entrepreneurs and guide those businesses wishing to make a mark in international markets.

Carl Beck

Member

Carl’s recent experience at Aeroqual has seen him lead sales, product, and marketing at a time when the business grew from $2M to $20M, become a global name in environmental monitoring and the recipient of the Hi-Tech NZ award for the most innovative hardware product in 2016 and the TIN100 Supreme Scale Up award. Prior to Aeroqual, Carl was part of the executive team that led the successful exit of Fonterra-backed INRO Technologies to Crown Equipment. In 2014 he was awarded a Prime Minister Business Scholarship by the Rt Hon John Key, which allowed him to attend the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD.

 

 

 

Carl has a degree in microbiology from University of Auckland and postgraduate qualifications in applied science and strategic marketing. Carl mentors and guides growth stage technology companies that combine hardware and software in their product offering to international customers.
